Powerful photos. It is unfortunate that the poorest of provinces are often the most severely impacted due to the failed implementation of building regulations. I don't want to bring politics into this situation, but I hope this event will help ease tensions between the ethnic Chinese and Tibetans and encourage cooperation and stricter safety regulations.

#11 stopped me in my tracks. How a person can lose 10 family members in one event and keep going is a testament to the strength of her spirit. May they all find comfort and blessings in the days to come.

I couldn't look at #29 for more than 1 second. I have children of the same age, and these horrible cuts and stitches are just wrenching.

Great photo's! Too bad for them.
#22 subject is very ingenious! Somehow he found a working phone jack in all that rubble. But I wonder if this was his own phone or will someone else get a huge bill as he calls relatives elsewhere? [lol]

Very sad situation!.
I dont know if in other places it similar to my country, EVERYtime I see the news.. ALL of them are BAD news!!.. War in the middle east, confrontations between drugdealers vs national army.. Earthquakes..
There must be some good news outhere to publish & communicate also!..
Dear Alan, I strongly recommend you to give a bit more positive orientation to this beautyful section!.. normally this page is a bit on shine on may day.. but definitively not in publications like this one..

I'm very sorry about those people.
I went to China 2 months ago and I can't believe this.
I'm very impressive about these monks because they are living in China under a lot of pressure but they are giving a hand to everyone over there.
I hope they gonna recover this beautiful country as soon as possible!
All the best wishes from Chile.

I hope that the Chinese government give these poor people the proper assistance they need and not some bullshit aid just to show the world that this communist government takes care of their people! It saddens me how a powerful nation like this don't care for it's people.

Apart from China's propaganda, let's not forget all the help given by the monks here. They were there before the official rescuers came.
Some monks have journeyed hundreds of kilometres in buses or crammed on the back of trucks, to help search for bodies, cook food and tend to the dead.

@ 7, ugh? id like to see you in that situation
time to rebiuld. earthquakes happen everywhere all year round.
there is a study in my country MEX is trying to see if it will be better to monitor earthquakes through Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. this is why we see sooooo maaaanyy earthquakes. nothing to be worried about. no 2012 BS. what happened in June 6th 2006? (666) no antichrist. pure balony
but just in case:
no corras
no grites
no empujes

#7 & #24:
Have we become so intolerant in our 'enlightenment' that we cannot accept the religious/cultural expressions of faith and sympathy offered by others?
Would you squelch spiritual language simply because you do not understand or believe it? Please respect these outpourings of prayer and blessings as sincere and hopeful.
